Inspired by observations of Saraswati Puja in Kolkata, Aseng Borang seeks to delve into the universal yet deeply personal experience of festivals which create inclusive spaces that embrace marginalized groups and dissolve societal norms. Through movements, storytelling, and the performance of rituals, she explores the minute connections between celebration, identity.
Sharing her practice and research, Aseng will demonstrate how these ritualistic processes of celebration intersect with the physical, emotional, and societal dimensions of human experience, highlighting their potential for connection and transformation.

Rare compositions from the kalavantulu community – devadasis from Andhra Pradesh – give us a glimpse into the lives of these remarkable women, carriers of a fast-vanishing and much maligned artistic tradition. Join dancer, teacher and scholar Dr. Yashoda Thakore as she performs and shares insights, followed by a conversation with the artist facilitated by Prof. Paromita Chakravarti from Jadavpur University. Solรจne Weinachter is Scottish Dance Theatreโs Associate Artist and an internationally acclaimed performer.
Katye Coe is Scottish Dance Theatreโs Rehearsal Director and works as a dancer, teacher, mentor and facilitator.
Solรจne and Katye will talk about their work with Scottish Dance Theatre, and the companyโs history, from a humble grassroots community project to Scotlandโs flagship contemporary dance company. Solรจne will share the inspiration sources and creation process behind Antigone, Interrupted, the companyโs hit production touring India this December, and open a discussion around how artistsโ concerns about our contemporary world inform the art works that they make.
