A big thank you to our 2024-25 Pickle Pals and Patrons from all over India.
Your contributions enabled us to survive through a very precarious year, plan and deliver
a range of programmes for different artists and audiences. We took artists into peoples homes, into NGO schools, into intensive workshop spaces and exclusive clubs to interact with students, local practitioners, lay audiences and our ever-growing circle of supporters. All these encounters created magical experiences, and fed into our flagship event: Holding Space: Pickle Factory Season 5 (see adjacent video).
Thank you for joining the Pickle Factory movement, and being such a supportive part of our expanding dance-curious community! As we go into our birthday month of July, this is the perfect time to ask you to renew your pledge and support. And if you are a first-time supporter, a very warm welcome to the Pickle Factory Family! Help us
imagine and implement more and more ways to bring the arts and communities together, and support our dance ecologies into the future.

Here’s a snapshot of what you would support in 2025-26?

  1. Our series of workshops for educational NGOs under our Arts4All initiative
Facilitated by Indian and international artists and educators, these 4-5 day workshops open up the world of the arts to young students as well as build bridges between practicing artists and teachers working on art integration practices.
  2. @Home – a sampling of art, dance, music and food hosted by and for Kolkata’s art lovers
Co-curated with our partner Ponder Alt, this bimonthly series takes artists into the cosy comfort and hospitality of peoples’ homes, where small audiences can meet artists up close and delve into their processes and work. Here’s more on the @Home sessions so far.
  3. Spaces for Practice – opportunities for performers to keep growing
These intensive and self-reflective residencies mentored by established artists from India and abroad introduce and encourage new ways of doing, making and thinking about movement. These unique experiences are aimed at building capacity for practising dancers and dance teachers to help them think through questions and develop their own critical and choreographic voices. The 2024 Spaces for Practice programme brought Dr. Yashoda Thakore to Calcutta.
  4. Dance Appreciation Workshops
Designed and facilitated by dance critic Kathakali Jana, these workshops open up the world of dance to diverse dance-curious demographics in enjoyable and accessible ways. We plan to offer this a a regular Pickle Factory service.
  5. Scratch! – a showcase of works in progress
To support artists in sharing early versions of their work, and facilitate audience engagement and feedback, we present Scratch! – a model we tried only in 2019, and that intend to now present regularly.
  6. Finding Ground – a platform for emerging artists
Co-presented with Artsforward, Finding Ground offers a place of belonging for young artists and new choreographic voices. The 2024-25 edition presented work from Bangalore, Imphal, Raipur and Roing.

Our full programme for 2025-26 will be released at the end of July 2025
